I once asked a friend if she would love to spruce up her place, add some plants, or some paintings, to which she answered this house is an old one I don’t think there’s much I can do to it and then, or you come and plant those damn flowers if you want. We giggled away and soon the topic changed to other things
But it got me thinking, many of us have a love and hate relationship with our homes. Sometimes feeling overwhelmed at the concept of decorating. Other times we are waiting for the day we buy our own home. Things like finances or not having a clue about what to put where also have an impact of just zapping the energy right out of interior decorating.
Thing is, you can fall back in love with your haven or begin that love relationship with it now in just 5 simple steps.

Figure out who you are as a person, and what style of home décor best suits you. What do you want to feel when you walk in and settle into your home? How do you want your visitors to feel? To perceive you.
When I moved apartments 2 years ago I was immediately taken in by how bright and airy the apartment was, for me this was a selling point, I visualized a place with lots of plants, textures and colour. A cheery home for my family. Is it safety, romance or happiness and an all-around good healthy feel that radiates within the walls of your home?

Find unique furniture and décor pieces, in this case, something new, something borrowed and yes, something memorable holds. You don’t have to break a bank to decorate, purchase items you can afford. Also, let the size of the apartment dictate the kind and size of furniture you get If unsure of how it will all look together use online tools like Canva to create a mood board.

Create good memories in your space, have family and friends over sometimes instead of opting to go out, bring in that sentimental item you have from your childhood or that shawl that your mami used to wear all the time. These whimsical items are what connects your spirit to your beautiful home

Keep it fresh and clean. A clean home equals a peaceful home. Furthermore you don’t have to paint over walls in a rented house, simply use wallpaper. Avoid that deep shaggy wall to wall carpets that simply soaks in the dust.

Finally, let the mood radiate throughout the house, your living spaces should connect and flow into each other, whether it’s a particular color scheme or rug or a particular furniture piece.
